"The strongest argument against social conservatism is the past. From Puritanism, slavery, the plight of women, the temperance movement, Jim Crow Laws, sexual repression, and now homophobia, the conservatives are continually on the wrong side of history. Every generation’s controversial and “progressive” ideals of that day become—thankfully—accepted by the next generation or so while those same ideals turn into the accepted traditionalist position a decade or two later as the bar keeps moving. Today’s liberals are tomorrow’s elephants. Conservatism is the vain attempt to hold on to a socially unjust and antiquated world view. This delivers slight amounts of optimism with our future."
